Joe A. Malik 3d 1977 -  2008NB

Founder & CEO, Joe Malik 3d. I play in the band Benny and the Jets. We recorded 3 LPs in the 70s, toured the U.S. and Canada in the 80s, got invited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the 90s and when the United States Government needed a band to perform at the unveiling of the Bill Haley Rock and Roll Stamp they hired us.

Anyway, we had been doing a series of summer concerts for Harley-Davidson, and opened for Eddie Money, Confederate Railroad, Mitch Ryder, Mountain, Foghat, Humble Pie, and the Kentucky Headhunters. It was at the Kentucky Headhunters show where we met Joe 3d and the G1NBC crew who were filming that performance.

Here we all were on a hot August day at a huge Harley-Davidson event with hundreds of motor cycles, thousands of people and a giant rock and roll party being captured on film by G1NBC for their IP Network Broadcast.

The guys and girls from the network crew worked effortlessly, seemingly knowing each others' moves; and without speaking a word, they never missing a shot. Simultaneously, Joe was out there directing traffic, helping the bands, working with the sound and security guys, and generally making order out of the chaos that normally that goes hand and hand with producing outdoor music festivals.

He walked through the crowd with no one suspecting that he was the CEO of G1NBC. He walks a little faster them most, with more of a sense of purpose in his step. Whit a  walkie-talkie in one hand and cell phone in the other, at all times, Joe 3d seemed to be followed by a small army of colleagues. His calm and confident demeanor left everyone feeling something extraordinary was about to take place.

The scene reminded me of the time I met Ted Turner in Las Vegas: We were playing at the Las Vegas Convention Center with 1960s recording stars, Freddy Boom Boom Cannon and rock legend Bo Diddley when the sea of people parted as the young, unproven executive quickly may his way through the crowd, explaining how his new cable network was going to change TV forever. Joe 3d had that same exact effect on the crowd at the Kentucky Headhunters show.

Since we first met, I've had the pleasure of working with Joe 3d and his G1NBC TV Network on numerous occasions,  and together we've planned special events in places that include Boston, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Miami, and in my hometown of Detroit.  Every chance I get, I tell Joe 3d the Ted Turner story.  I guess I should tell him life has been very good to me. Rock and Roll has been very good to me as well and since I am sitting in their  air-conditioned remote studio bus on this hot August day, using one of their computers to type this story, I'd have to say that G1NBC and particularly its Founder & CEO have likewise been very good to me.  I also believe that the future of G1NBC will be very good for everyone connected to the IP Network Broadcast for generations to come, especially knowing that Joe 3d with be passing the baton to the next generation of Maliks.
